First Accumulating Snow for Many Along I-95

The wait is finally over, snow lovers from Washington DC to Philadelphia will finally see accumulating snow. The system is expected to start out as rain before quickly transitioning to snow Wednesday morning.

GFS Future Radar

Cold air aloft along with heavier precipitation rates will keep precipitation all snow down to the surface. However, snow will struggle to accumulate due to warm surface temperatures. Areas under heavy banding have the best chance of reaching the high end totals on the snow map.

Ensembles reflect the struggle to accumulate showing very low odds 3″ or more snow accumulates:

Probability of at least 3″ of snow

As snow departs the region, well below average temperatures will move into the region. This raises concern for icy conditions Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

With all that said, here is my current thinking:

Track the storm using the weather models and weather radar features.

Sorry for the short post, I’m very busy tonight. I will update overnight if needed.
